Rapper 6ix9ine debuts at No. 3 on both the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts (dated March 10) with his debut set, Day69. The collection kicks off with 55,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending March 1, according to Nielsen Music.
The 21-year-old, born Daniel Hernandez, garnered attention with his hit “Gummo,” which climbed to No. 5 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs last December. Day69’s arrival helps push “Gummo” back into the chart’s top 10 (No. 8) with the week’s Streaming Gainer award and prompts debuts from two album cuts: “Billy” (No. 29) and “Rondo,” featuring Tory Lanez and Young Thug (No. 38). Plus, the album’s “Keke,” featuring Fetty Wap and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, lifts 38-31.
‘Psycho’ Metrics: Plus, Post Malone roars into the chart’s upper reaches with “Psycho,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, which opens at No. 2 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The debut matches the starting rank of his previous release, “Rockstar,” featuring 21 Savage, an eventual 14-week champion on the chart.
The high “Psycho” start comes from its No. 1 entrance on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales, with 80,000 downloads registered in the week, and a No. 2 launch on R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs with 54.9 million weekly U.S. streams. The collaboration also clocks 2 million in radio audience in the week ending March 4.
With “Psycho,” Post Malone earns his fifth top 10 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, following “White Iverson” (No. 5, 2016), “Congratulations,” featuring Quavo (No. 5, 2017), the aforementioned “Rockstar” and “I Fall Apart” (No. 9).
Featured artist Ty Dolla $ign, meanwhile, banks his third. He previously climbed to No. 9 with “Paranoid,” featuring B.o.B in 2014 and shot to No. 3 with “Sucker for Pain” alongside Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Imagine Dragons, Logic and X Ambassadors in 2016.
Migos ‘Stir’ Up Airwaves: Elsewhere, Migos’ “Stir Fry” earns a top 10 trifecta this week as it sizzles at radio. First, the tune hikes 15-10 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay with a 4 percent bump to 15 million in radio audience in the week ending March 4, and secures the rap trio’s seventh top 10 effort on the chart.
On Rhythmic Songs, meanwhile, “Fry” fires 14-10 to mark Migos’ fifth visit to the region, thanks to an 8 percent lift in plays for the week.
And to cap off the triple play, Migos’ latest also darts 12-9 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop, scoring a 6 percent bump in plays for the week. The move pushes the collective to its ninth top 10 hit on the list.
‘Top Off’ Hops On: Radio also gave a warm reception to DJ Khaled’s new release “Top Off,” featuring JAY-Z, Future and Beyoncé. The song, released March 2, enters Rap Airplay (No. 19) and R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (No. 27) with only three days of airplay in the latest tracking week (which ended March 4). The all-star collaboration previews Khaled’s forthcoming 11th studio album, Father of Asahd.
