Benny Blanco Hits U.K. Singles Summit With ‘Eastside,’ BTS Makes Chart History

Benny Blanco, Halsey and Khalid‘s “Eastside” (Interscope/Universal) completes its climb to the top of the U.K. singles chart, as the Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again soundtrack (Polydor/Universal) returns to the album summit.

Producer-artist Blanco’s single enjoys a late surge to overtake George Ezra‘s “Shotgun” (Columbia/Sony) — which last week spent a fourth non-consecutive week at No. 1 and now falls to No. 3 — and “Promises” (Columbia/Sony) by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith, which climbs 4-2 and misses out on the top spot by just 139 combined units. 

“Eastside” jumps 3-1 in its seventh chart week with combined units of just under 50,000, according to the Official Charts Company. These included 4.4 million audio streams and 1.3m video streams. Blanco has 12 U.K. No. 1 singles to his name as a producer for Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and others.

Drake‘s “In My Feelings” (Cash Money/Republic/Universal) dips 2-4 on the new survey, while Loud Luxury hold at No. 5 with “Body” (Armada), featuring Brando. Chicago rapper Juice WRLD moves 11-10 with “Lucid Dreams” (Interscope/Universal).

There’s also a moment of chart history at No. 21, where BTS enter with “Idol” (Bighit Entertainment) to score the first-ever top 40 single by a K-pop group, six years after Psy‘s “Gangnam Style” became the first K-pop hit. BTS’ Love Yourself: Answer album becomes their third U.K. top 20 title, debuting at No. 14. 

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again finished the chart week 2,000 combined units ahead of The Greatest Showman (Atlantic/Warner), which moves back 3-2. Last week’s No. 1, Ariana Grande‘s Sweetener (Republic/Universal), falls to No. 3 while Ezra’s Staying At Tamara’s holds at No. 4, as does Drake’s Scorpion at No. 5. 

There’s a No. 6 debut for Interpol‘s Marauder (Matador), their best showing since Our Love To Admire reached No. 2 in 2007. Alice In Chains make the top ten of the U.K. album chart for the first time, as Rainier Fog (BMG) arrives at No. 9. 

Post Malone‘s former No. 1 Beerbongs & Bentleys (Republic/Universal) rebounds 13-10 after his Reading & Leeds Festival appearances. Singer-songwriter and chart longrunner Gilbert O’Sullivan makes a No. 20 start with his self-titled BMG album produced by Ethan Johns, his best ranking with a new studio set since A Stranger In My Own Backyard reached No. 9 in 1974.
