Dirtybird Records’ latest release was a product of romantic indecision.
Iranian producer Ardalan channeled his own hesitant tendencies on “The No Yeah,” a quirky track featuring a cooing female vocal over modular techno bloops and stomping sub-bass.
“The idea behind the track was an inside joke about how I can’t make any decisions ever,” he says. “And in the song, this applies to the girl singing whether love is meant to be with a significant other or whether it’s not, and it builds up from saying yes or no so much that the drop had to cause damage that involves bass.”

The debut EP represents Ardalan’s coming of age on the San Francisco imprint, which had previously featured him on collaborative releases with label co-captain Justin Martin, as well as its Dirtybird Players and Dirtybird BBQ compilations.

The Tehran native joined the Dirtybird crew on their recent Dirtybird BBQ tour, playing in Brooklyn and Toronto alongside the likes of Claude VonStroke, J. Phlip and Christian Martin. He will also play at Dirtybird’s New Year’s Eve party in Chicago next month.
Ardalan’s The Yeah/No EP will be available through Dirtybird on Dec. 1.
