Girls’ Generation’s new team Oh!GG released their first single Wednesday (Sept. 5), the clap-happy “Lil’ Touch.”
The up-tempo track, driven by dramatic wailing synths, pulsating claps and rhythmic percussion, introduces a more mature side to the girl group, with the song’s passionate nature relayed through its lyrics and the fivesome’s expressive vocals. “I just wanna kiss boy,” demands Yuri early on in the song. “Just give me a little touch,” ends each of the high-energy choruses after being introduced by the questioning, “Won’t you give it up, give it up to me?”
Oh!GG is the newest sub-unit of the legendary K-pop group Girls’ Generation. It features Taeyeon, Sunny, Hyoyeon, Yuri and YoonA, the five members of the originally nine-membered act to remain signed to SM Entertainment. Three other active members — Tiffany Young, Seohyun, and Sooyoung– are considered to remain part of the larger Girls’ Generation lineup. The unit’s name has several meanings, including that “Oh (?)” is the word for “five” in Korean.

“Lil’ Touch” is the first Girls’ Generation single since last year’s dual anniversary tracks “All Night” and “Holiday.” It was released through a hide-and-seek style music video that shows the five women performing the song as they face off with the camera. It features an edge of danger with the women aiming for love with a gun, with an emulating move included in the song’s choreography.
Like the song itself, the looks worn by the group show them in a more mature light, with each one portraying her own distinct looks that hint towards both elegance and sensuality. In their 11th year, it’s a fitting look for the group whose Girls’ have grown into women ready to declare their need for a “Lil’ Touch.”
The song was released as a digital single with the b-side “Fermata,” an airy, folksy synth-pop song.
Girls’ Generation was formed under SM Entertainment in 2007 and are one of the most prominent female K-pop acts of the past decade. Oh!GG is the group’s second sub-unit following 2012’s TTS, which saw its Twinkle become the first-ever Girls’ Generation-associated album debut on the Billboard 200, where it peaked at No. 126 in May 2012. Girls’ Generation’s Mr. Mr. EP in 2014 is currently the act’s highest-peaking album; it hit No. 110 in March of its release year.
