Korean-American pop star Tiffany Young released her solo single “Over My Skin” in June, and celebrated her birthday on Aug. 1 with the release of the song’s music video.
The video introduces the singer as “Professor T” and has her singing a lesson about desire and herself as she is backed by an old-timey band. Exuding confidence and sensuality, it’s a testament to Young coming into her own as both a woman and a soloist.
Interspersed are scenes of her posing for paparazzi as people write about her, sitting as students write on her, recording music, standing among mannequins, and hidden by a plastic sheet while doing a photo shoot that she herself is directing. According to her rep, these scenes represent what Young has learned and wants to teach others, which include things like taking control of one’s own career and learning how to manage a world dominated by social media.
Born and raised in L.A., Young (also known as Stephanie “Tiffany” Young Hwang) pursued a career in South Korea and grew to prominence in the K-pop scene as a member of popular girl group Girls’ Generation. After spending a decade with the act, she left former label SM Entertainment in 2017 and has since signed with Transparent Agency. “Over My Skin” is her first original English single as a soloist, and follows 2016’s “I Just Wanna Dance” and “Heartbreak Hotel” with Simon Dominick.
