There’s a good reason why we didn’t find out about Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel’s second son, baby boy Phineas, until several months after his birth. On Monday’s (Jan. 25) episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Timberlake broke down the couple’s parenting philosophy when it comes to keeping their kids, and their private life, out of the public eye for as long as possible.

“I try to be conscious of making sure we can live a life where we’re not weirdly private but we’re conscious of making sure they could be kids for as long as possible and not have the weight of somebody else treating them differently because of something that their parents do,” Timberlake told Shepard, who has two young girls with wife actress Kristen Bell. “Raising young males is one thing and raising young females right now is another thing,” Timberlake joked, bro’ing down with Shepard about how iconic acting roles can seep into their kids’ lives unexpectedly.
Shepard described constantly dealing with the universal love for Bell’s Frozen character Princess Anna, which he said he combats by telling his daughters Lincoln and Delta not to reveal their mom’s alter ego when possible. “I know you’re proud and you should be able to say that, but I’m just warning you, that’ll probably make other kids jealous,” Shepard said he told Delta at one point. “They won’t know how to handle that feeling.”

Timberlake could relate, saying his five-year-old son Silas is constantly hearing from his school pals about his dad being Branch from Trolls. “I guess for guys like us, the hope is that we just keep instilling in them that we’ve got really fun jobs but it’s not who we are,” said JT. “And hopefully, down the road that has more weight to it I guess.”

Shepard could relate, sharing his fear that other kids might want to come to the house to play with couple’s daughters just because of who their parents are. “I have that great fear that kids are going to hang out with them solely because of that or resent them because of that,” Shepard said. Timberlake and Shepard also talked about growing up in, respectively, Memphis and Detroit, their experience on the original run of MTV’s Punk’d and JT’s new dramatic role in the film Palmer.
