The excerpt below shows Davis in the studio with frequent collaborator Gil Evans (played by Jeffrey Grover), as they refine their big band arrangement of the Gershwin classic Porgy & Bess. The short clip showcases both Cheadle’s Davis voice (so characteristic that just about everyone who crossed paths with him will offer up a rendition) and his trumpet playing. Cheadle learned the instrument before taking on the role.
