Alexei Barrionuevo is the international editor at Billboard. He is a journalist and documentary filmmaker with almost three decades of experience as an international correspondent, editor and columnist. Before joining Billboard, the Chicago native directed an independent documentary, Waiting for the Drop, about the EDM music explosion in the United States, which screened at the Santa Barbara (Calif.) International Film Festival. He served as the Brazil bureau chief for The New York Times, overseeing coverage of politics, culture and the economy of five countries in South America. Before that he worked as a business correspondent based in Chicago for the Times, where he won a Publisher’s Award for his coverage of the Enron criminal trial in Houston. Alexei also spent six years as a staff writer for The Wall Street Journal, covering the global energy industry from Houston and European antitrust and regulation while based in Brussels. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Alexei also speaks Spanish and Portuguese.
