This season of The Voice is certainly hitting all the feels — including those of Jennifer Hudson.
Dedicating a song to her late mother on Monday’s episode (Nov. 19), contestant SandyRedd once again made JHud emotional with her performance, allowing both artists to bond over unfortunate family tragedies.
SandyRedd sang Boyz II Men’s “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” while honoring her mother, who died of an aggressive form of cancer. “My entire career is centered around making sure my mother’s legacy is felt and to remember her always. This speaks volumes about how much I miss her,” she said.
“There’s not too many people I would sit and have a conversation with about the loss of my mother, because they can’t relate. I can have that conversation with you, because I know you know,” JHud then said, referring to the tragic events that struck her family a decade ago.

On Oct. 24, 2008, Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew were murdered by her sister’s estranged husband. Although the singer rarely discusses the unthinkable tragedy, last night’s episode of The Voice allowed both artists to find some comfort and solace in each other.
“[That performance] took us to the depth of your hurt,” Hudson also said. “That was a powerful thing.”
