2014 is almost over, and that means one thing for the Billboard staff — it’s time to obsess over our favorite albums of the year.
This week, the original Must-Hear Music podcast team — Jason Lipshutz, Joe Lynch and Erika Ramirez — sit down to share and argue over their favorite records of the year.
One thing we all agree on: The surprise D’Angelo album, Black Messiah, is 100 percent deserving of the hype.
Otherwise, Jason talks about his love for Against Me!‘s political, personal punk on Transgender Dysphoria Blues and Future’s Honest. Erika talks about why Nicki Minaj‘s The Pinkprint is her best album to date and why J. Cole‘s 2014 Forest Hills Drive is one of the year’s best hip-hop albums.
And Joe Lynch (me) talks about Mapei’s criminally ignored album Hey Hey and why The War on Drugs’ Lost In the Dream is a masterpiece, despite being decidedly dad rock. (FYI, St. Vincent‘s self-titled is my favorite of the year, but I’ve given her enough shine on a recent podcast).
