Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson is slated to host the 2021 People’s Choice Awards on Dec. 7 in Santa Monica, Calif.
On top of his hosting duties, the comedian is nominated for comedy TV star and male TV star for his work on SNL. This year marks the first time Thompson has been nominated at the PCAs.
“I can’t believe I get to host the PCAs!!,” Thompson shared in a statement. “I’m beyond blessed to be nominated twice and part of two more nominations for SNL. Good times indeed.”
In a unique arrangement, the PCAs will air both on NBC (for the first time) and E!, which has aired the show since 2018. The show aired on CBS from its launch in 1975 to 2017. (Hard to imagine, but the PCAs went on the air seven months before SNL debuted on NBC.)
Singer/actor Demi Lovato hosted the show in 2020.
Thompson was nominated in two categories at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards: outstanding lead actor in a comedy series (Kenan) and outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series (SNL). In 2018, Thompson won an Emmy for outstanding original music and lyrics for helping pen the words to “Come Back Barack,” which was featured in an episode of SNL hosted by Chance the Rapper.
Justin Bieber is the top nominee at this year’s PCAs with 10 nods thanks largely to his hit collabs “Peaches,” featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon, and “Stay” with The Kid LAROI. Lil Nas X is runner-up, with six nods. Olivia Rodrigo and Doja Cat each received five nods.
The PCAs are scheduled to air on Dec. 7 at 9 p.m. ET on both E! and NBC from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.
