Mariah Carey was born and raised in Huntington, N.Y. Her birthday is March 27, 1969, and her height is 5'8". She started singing and writing songs from a young age, even doing backing vocals as young as 12. Carey got her big break at 19, when she gave Sony record exec Tommy Mottola her tape. She released her self-titled debut album in June 1990, and it spent 11 weeks atop the Billboard 200. The album also spawned four Hot 100 No. 1s: "Vision of Love," "Love Takes Time," "Someday" and "I Don't Wanna Cry." Many more chart-toppers would come, including albums 'Music Box,' 'Daydream,' 'The Emancipation of Mimi' and 'Butterfly,' while "Always Be My Baby," "Dreamlover," "Fantasy," "I'll Be There" and "All I Want for Christmas Is You," among others, topped the Hot 100. The last has become a holiday classic, earning her the nickname the "Queen of Christmas." Carey has had a host of collaborators over the years, including Ariana Grande, Luther Vandross, 98 Degrees, Whitney Houston, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj and more. She has dozens of Grammy nominations under her belt, and has taken home several wins, including best new artist and best female pop vocal performance for "Vision of Love" in 1991, and best R&B song for "We Belong Together" and best contemporary R&B album for 'The Emancipation of Mimi' in 2006.
