Satellite TV giant and U.K. ISP BSkyB is to shutter its Sky Songs service on Feb. 7, 2011.
The service was launched in October 2009 and offered unlimited streaming and five MP3 downloads for £4.99 ($7.87) a month. However, it is reported that Sky Songs has less than 10,000 subscribers.
“We’ve taken the difficult decision to close Sky Songs,” said the company in a statement. “Although we are extremely proud of the service we built and the experience it offers, we just didn’t see the consumer demand we’d hoped for. As Sky Songs demonstrates, we’re a business that takes risks and innovates, but at the same time, we’re pragmatic and act decisively when a new venture isn’t working out.”
