Three songs from “Burlesque” lead the shortlist for songs eligible for the original song Oscar, with multiple tracks from the films “Black Tulip,” “Country Strong” and “Despicable Me” also eligible, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The songs from “Burlesque” are “Bound to You,” written by Christina Aguilera, Samuel Dixon and Sia Furler and performed by Aguilera; “Welcome to Burlesque,” written by Charlie Midnight, John Patrick Shanley, Matthew Gerrard and Steve Lindsey and performed by Cher and “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me,” written by Diane Warren and performed by Cher.
The next step in the original song category process will take place on Jan. 6, when the Music Branch will screen clips from the 41 eligible songs and give each song a point rating. In order to be nominated, a song must receive an average score of 8.25 or more. If no songs meet that threshold, there won’t be any works nominated in the category.
The final nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards will be announced on Jan. 25; the Oscar ceremony will take place on Feb. 27 on ABC.
