Dave Matthews is turning his band’s tour opener in New Jersey at the end of the month into a benefit concert for Hurricane Sandy victims, pledging $1 million to regional recovery efforts.
According to a statement, all proceeds from the Nov. 30 show at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford will be donated to Bama Works Sandy Relief Fund. That includes ticket sales and merchandise.

Also on the bill is Jamaican reggae icon Jimmy Cliff, who voiced his concern on Twitter this month that the media had ignored the affects of Sandy on Haiti. An estimated 54 people died there due to the storm and thousands remain homeless, according to the AFP.
Other acts that have taken action to raise relief funds for Hurricane victims include The Script, Rihanna, Jack Johnson and Justin Bieber, who pledged $1 for each ticket sold at his four New York City-area concerts. Lady Gaga wrote on her blog last week that she would be pledging $1 million to help her native NYC. “Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours,” she said.
