Eric Church, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert Lead CMA Award Nominations

Eric Church grabbed five nominations for this year’s CMA Awards — including nods for Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year for Chief, and three nominations for hit song “Springsteen — to lead all artists, with husband and wife Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert grabbing four nominations apiece, including a shared Song of the Year nod for their duet “Over You.”

Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Little Big Town and Dierks Bentley followed close behind with three nominations each. The list was announced this morning (Sept. 5) by Aldean and Luke Bryan live on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

The 46th annual awards will be held November 1 in Nashville, and will be hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood for the fifth time.

“The depth and variety of talent represented by this year’s nominees is outstanding,” said Steve Moore, CMA CEO, in a statement. “From Country Music legends, to cross-format favorites, to current superstars, and an exciting crop of artists who have jumped to that next level, the 2012 CMA Awards are going to be an exciting evening of entertainment for any fan of great music and memorable performances.”

Shelton and Lambert, who received the Male and Female Vocalist of the Year awards respectively at last year’s event, are the fourth couple to receive a joint nomination for Song of the Year, following Ed and Patsy Bruce (“Mommas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” 1978), Whitey Shafer and third wife Darlene (“Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind,” 1985), and Shafer and fourth wife Lyndia (the ironic “All My Ex’s Live in Texas,” 1987).

Lambert also picked up a nomination for Music Video of the Year for “Over You” (which Shelton did not), as well as Female Vocalist and Album of the Year for Four The Record. Shelton added another Male Vocalist nomination, additionally picking up Entertainer of the Year and Single of the Year (“God Gave Me You”) nods as well.
