Two of EXO’s members teamed up to end summer on a bright note with their new song “We Young.”
Chanyeol and Sehun released the cheery hip-pop track on Friday (Sept. 14). With twinkling chimes and a playful piano melody meshed with a trap beat, the EXO duo sing and rap — both predominantly rap in EXO’s releases — about throwing away youthful worries. “Whatever it is don’t worry/ It doesn’t matter where you are now,” Sehun says in the pre-chorus bridge, leading into the repeated choral chant of “We Young” as the pair rejoice in the opportunities ahead of young people.
The song was released through a music video that features the pair living their best life as they enjoy simple pleasures, perform in a bar, work on cars and end things by performing with a crowd of dancers. Its pastel-hued settings match the jovial nature of “We Young,” while their actions serve as a visual depiction of how being young is a time for exploring different paths and careers.
“We Young” was released as part of SM Entertainment’s Station x 0 release project. It is the third Station x 0 song, following Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon collaboration with R&B singer Melomance on “Page 0” and fellow EXO member Baekhyun’s team-up with rapper Loco on “Young.”
EXO last released their Japanese album Countdown in January, which went to No. 4 on the World Albums chart. The popular K-pop boy band is rumored to release a new album in the next few months.
