Ludacris and Dave Matthews are heading to the silver screen in a holiday film and a family drama, respectively. Ludacris, whose real name is Chris Bridges, has joined the cast of the Warner Bros. Pictures’ Vince Vaughn comedy “Fred Claus.”
David Dobkin is directing the film, which stars Vaughn as Santa’s loser brother living in New York who returns home to the North Pole and almost ruins Christmas. Ludacris will play an angry elf. Paul Giamatti, Kevin Spacey, John Michael Higgins and Elizabeth Banks also are in the cast.
Ludacris was part of the ensemble cast of “Crash” and received a SAG Award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. He also appeared in “Hustle & Flow” and on TV’s “Law & Order: SVU,” and recently did voice work for an episode of “The Boondocks” on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.
Meanwhile, Matthews will star with Sissy Spacek and Troy Garity in Perry Moore and Hunter Hill‘s family drama “Lake City.” Spacek and Garity will play a mother and son who have been estranged after a tragedy. They reunite under dire circumstances in order to save their home.
Matthews, who will be credited in the film as David Matthews, will play the villain. The artists previously appeared in the family films “Where the Red Fern Grows” and “Because of Winn-Dixie.”
Principal photography begins Monday (Oct. 9) in Virginia, where Spacek lives with her husband, production designer/director Jack Fisk.
