Jamie Foxx and Kevin Spacey are among the actors garnering music-related nominations for the Golden Globe awards, to be handed out Jan. 16 in Los Angeles. Foxx received a nod for best performance by an actor in a motion picture (musical or comedy) for his portrayal of Ray Charles in “Ray,” which was nominated for best motion picture (musical or comedy).
In the musical or comedy category, Foxx is up against Jim Carrey, Paul Giamatti and Kevin Spacey, who can be seen portraying late singer Bobby Darin in “Beyond the Sea.” Kevin Kline is also nominated for his portrayal of songwriter Cole Porter in “De-Lovely.”
In the best original song category, nominations went to Counting Crows for “Accidentally in Love” from “Shrek 2,” the Glen Ballard and Alan Silvestri-penned “Believe” from “The Polar Express” (performed by Josh Groban), Andrew Lloyd Weber’s “Learn To Be Lonely” from “The Phantom of the Opera,” Wyclef Jean, Jerry “Wonder” Duplessis and Andrea Guerra’s “Million Voices” from “Hotel Rwanda” and Mick Jagger and Dave Stewart’s “Old Habits Die Hard” from “Alfie.”
Nominees for best original score include Clint Eastwood for “Million Dollar Baby,” Jan A.P. Kaczmarek for “Finding Neverland,” Rolfe Kent for “Sideways,” Howard Shore for “The Aviator” and Hans Zimmer for “Spanglish.”
Rapper Mos Def was nominated for best performance by an actor in a mini-series or motion picture made for television for his role in “Something the Lord Made.”
The Golden Globes are selected by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Last year, the awards mirrored several eventual Academy Award winners, including best actor/actress winners Sean Penn and Charlize Theron.
