“Please, save your money. This thing sucks!” Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) jokingly tells the camera in the trailer for “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie.” U.S. audiences certainly listened to the first part of her plea — the big-screen “Glee” installment bombed at the box office this weekend, grossing just $5.7 million since being released on Friday (Aug. 12), according to The Hollywood Reporter (for a quick comparison, Justin Bieber‘s 3D film, “Never Say Never,” grossed $30.3 million in its opening weekend).
That total landed “Glee” at No. 11 for the weekend, way behind debuts like “The Help” (No. 2, $25.5 million), “Final Destination 5” (No. 3, $18.4 million), and “30 Minutes or Less” (No. 5, $13 million). However, “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie,” which featured concert footage and a peek into the lives of the cast members, reportedly cost only $9 million to produce, so Twentieth Century Fox is still expected to turn a profit from the film.
