“Glee” was full of tension this week, as the New Directions prepared for Sectionals. Mr. Schue decided to shake things up by reminding everyone that other members of the club can sing besides Finn and Rachel (we approve of this decision) and also make things more interesting for the competition.

‘Glee’ Newcomer Darren Criss Reflects on His ‘Dream’ Week
While Rachel was throwing temper tantrums over her loss of the spotlight, Kurt was having trouble fitting in with his new glee club, the Dalton Academy Warblers. Cue his cute almost-boyfriend Blaine to the rescue, offering Kurt a chance to audition for a solo at Sectionals. And who do you turn to when you need help with a solo performance? The queen of the ballad herself, Rachel Berry. What ensues is a shiver inducing mash-up of both Rachel and Kurt performing “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” from the musical “Evita.”

The Warblers didn’t understand the true beauty of Kurt’s performance (we have our fingers crossed they’ll wise up soon), but showed that they know what they’re doing. Their sectional number was a harmonic rendition of Train‘s “Hey, Soul Sister,” with Blaine singing the lead. It’s only because Blaine is so damn good that we can forgive him for snubbing Kurt’s solo, but we’re worried this may start showing the cracks in their up until now perfect relationship.

Speaking of perfect relationships, Quinn and Sam had the audience feeling all sorts of warm and mushy with their rendition of “Dirty Dancing” favorite, Bill Medley‘s and Jennifer Warnes‘ “(I’ve Had The) Time of My Life.” The cuteness of their performance was matched only by Santana’s veracity when she sang the Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse version of the Zutons‘ song “Valerie.” Not to mention Brittany and Mike throw down a “swinging” dance performance.

The combination number was just enough to help the New Directions glee club tie with the Warblers — meaning they’ll be moving on to regionals and we’ll be seeing much more of Blaine and his posse of uniformed harmonizers. To celebrate their success, the gleeks closed with a stellar performance of Florence and the Machine‘s “Dog Days Are Over.”

In the meantime, the cast of “Glee” will be preparing for their holiday episode which airs next week — and we hear they have a Sue Sylvester-shaped Grinch to deal with, oh no.
