Jackson Browne has paid homage to Glenn Frey with a performance of the song they collaborated on, “Take it Easy”.
Browne played the song Tuesday (Jan. 19) during a show at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida, his first concert following Frey’s death the previous day at the age of 67.
“Here’s a song that I’ve been singing every night for a while,” Browne told the audience. “I didn’t always sing it because it was such a famous song, I figured, you know, if people heard me sing it they’d come away thinking, ‘nah, and then he sang an Eagles cover.’”

“Take it Easy” was written almost entirely by Browne with some lyrics added by Frey when the pair roomed together in an East L.A. apartment block in the ’70s. The song became an enduring hit for the Eagles after it appeared on the group’s debut, self-titled 1972 album. Browne later recorded it for his 1973 album, For Everyman.
“I wrote this song with Glenn Frey,” Browne continued. “It’s a song that I started, but I didn’t finish it. Even if I had finished it by myself, it wouldn’t be the song that it is and it wouldn’t be the song that we all love.” Watch the clip below.
