Only Kelly Clarkson could do a Celine Dion song justice, showing off her unmatched vocal ability for Kellyoke on her daytime talk show on Wednesday (Nov. 20) by taking on the her fellow superstar’s “All By Myself.”
Accompanied by a piano and wearing a black leather skirt and off-the-shoulder top, Clarkson began the verses softly before turning up the emotion for the power ballad’s moving chorus, as her guitarist added to the intensity with a solo. “All by myself/ Don’t wanna be/ All by myself/ Anymore,” the superstar sang before wrapping up the cover by hitting an impressive high note, met with cheers from the audience.
“All By Myself” was originally released by singer-songwriter Eric Carmen in 1975 as the first single from his debut, self-titled album. The track peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. More than two decades later, the song was re-popularized by Dion, who released a cover of the track in 1996 as a single off her fourth English-language album, Falling Into You. The song, produced by David Foster, quickly became one of Dion’s biggest hits, hitting the top 10 on the Hot 100, Hot 100 Airplay and Hot 100 Singles Sales charts.
