Welcome to #TBT Mixtape, Billboard‘s series that showcases artists’ very own throwback-themed playlists exclusive to Billboard‘s Spotify account. The curated set features the artists’ favorite tracks from their youth and childhood.
This week’s spin comes from Lucy Dacus. The 22-year-old Richmond, Virginia-based musician feted the release of her sophomore LP Historian last month via Matador Records, with the 10-track set helmed in Nashville alongside No Burden producer Collin Pastore. “This is the album I needed to make,” says Dacus. “Everything after this is a bonus.”
Today, in the midst of a world tour in support of her new LP, the rising rocker looks back with this week’s #TBT Mixtape, inspired by the songs that helped inform her own songwriting and development as a musician.

“I hadn’t thought of some of these songs for years, but these are the ones that stand out — though I did have to narrow it down from around 100 songs originally,” Dacus shares. “These are songs that have broken and built me, as a musician and a person. Some of them have been the soundtrack for major moments in my life, others have convinced me to make a major moment happen. There are songs here that were shared with me, songs I discovered, songs I covered with high school bands, songs I danced to, songs I’ve seen live, and lyrics that I’ve never been able to shake.”
