Kobalt Strikes Administration Deal with Lady Antebellum
Kobalt Music Group has sealed up an exclusive, worldwide administration agreement with Grammy Award-winning trio Lady Antebellum. The deal with have Kobalt offering global creative and sync services and cover all songs on the upcoming Capitol Nashville release written by band members Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood. Kobalt will also be representing some works from the Lady Antebellum catalog, including select songs on the 2011 Own the Night album.
BMG Grabs Strictly Bassnectar and Rhythm Masters, Signs Publishing Agreements
BMG Chrysalis US has signed expansive worldwide music publishing agreements with pioneering electronic musician Bassnectar and independent NYC dance label Strictly Rhythm. The two deals will enable BMG to administer publishing rights globally for Bassnectar’s work and the array of dance and house artists and hits like Reel 2 Real’s ‘I Like to Move It,’ Ultra Naté’s ‘Free,’ Wamdue Project’s UK smash ‘King Of My Castle’ and many more within the Strictly Rhythm catalog.
ASCAP Launches PLAY MUSIC License
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers has launched the ASCAP PLAY MUSIC License for use with websites and mobile apps. The new tool will simplify the process of obtaining an ASCAP license and also make licenses more cost effective for individuals and small businesses.

Harry Fox Teams up with Google Play
The Harry Fox Agency, Inc. will be partnering with Google Play to bring rights management solutions for its Android and web-based digital music service. The rights management service, Slingshot will support Google Play as it works with HFA’s rights database and extensive publisher relationships to help license music for use in Google’s music locker and music store. HFA also plans to offer license administration and will administer royalty distributions to publishers.
ole Signs Publishing Deal with Jackoby Music
ole has signed a global publishing deal with Jackoby Music, an endeavor of Backstreet Boys member Howie Dorough, renowned entertainment attorney Jason Klein and music manager CJ Huyer. The agreement will have ole administering publishing rights worldwide for songwriters and producers primarily in the pop genre, including Neverest, a band that has achieved Gold certification in Canada.
Warner/Chappell Renews Barry Gibb Partnership
Warner/Chappell Music has extended its publishing agreement with The Bee Gees icon Barry Gibb and will continue to administer the rights to Gibbs’ deep catalog of work containing songs written from 1967 to the present.
BMG Nabs Web Sensation D-Pryde
BMG Chrysalis has signed an exclusive publishing and masters deal with the Canadian rapper/singer/songwriter that has earned more than 57 million YouTube views. Aside from administering publishing rights for D-Pryde worldwide, BMG will also release the artist’s debut EP through its brand new masters division.
