The Rolling Stones grab the top slot on the weekly roundup of Hot Tours with box office sales reported from the European leg of the legendary rock band’s 14 On Fire tour. The six-week trek from late-May until early-July included headlining performances in nine cities on the continent along with an outdoor show in Tel Aviv. Ticket sales at all 10 concerts topped $78.2 million from almost half a million fans in attendance during the run. The group also made four festival appearances while in Europe, performing on main stages at Lisbon’s Rock in Rio, the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands, the TW Classic festival in the Belgian city of Werchter and the Roskilde (Denmark) Festival.

The 14 On Fire tour kicked off in February, opening with stops in five cities in Asia included Tokyo where the band racked up $28 million in sales from three shows at the Tokyo Dome, the top-grossing engagement during the tour so far. The subsequent European leg that began on May 26 also produced two performances that topped the $10 million mark in ticket sales. The concert at Zürich’s Letzigrund stadium on June 1 grossed $10.7 million from 48,622 sold seats, and a packed stadium crowd of 76,495 at the Stade de France in Paris topped the $10 million mark by $42,000.

Next for the Stones’ tour will be the a trip through Australia and New Zealand that was postponed in March following the death of Mick Jagger’s partner L’Wren Scott. The band will open the tour’s final leg with a stadium performance in Adelaide, Australia, on Oct. 25 and hit seven more markets before wrapping in Auckland, New Zealand, on Nov. 22.
Italian singer/songwriter Vasco Rossi enters the Hot Tours tally at No. 2 with more than $26 million in ticket sales from concerts in Rome and Milan during his 7-day tour dubbed Live Kom 014. The veteran rock artist played multiple-show runs at stadiums in both cities just as he did during last summer’s Live Kom 013 tour in Torino and Bologna. Rossi retired from extensive touring in 2011, but has returned to the concert stage during the past two summers for brief stadium runs in select Italian markets. Last year’s seven-night stand was attended by 267,362 fans with sales totaling $18.7 million. This summer’s 7-show run drew 391,208 fans for three nights at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico and four at Stadio San Siro in Milan.
The Dave Matthews Band enters the weekly list of Hot Tours, earning the No. 3 ranking with the first box office counts reported from the group’s summertime trek in North American amphitheaters. The kick off occurred in the Houston market with a performance on May 16 at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Ticket sales from the first 18 markets on the itinerary total $21.7 million from 22 shows including the jam band’s July 2 appearance at Milwaukee’s annual Summerfest event. The festival, now in its 47th year, hosted the band at Marcus Amphitheatre with 22,595 fans in attendance.
Cher has wrapped the opening leg of the Dressed to Kill tour with sold out concerts in six western U.S. markets, landing her at No. 5 in this week’s recap of Hot Tours. The veteran entertainer added $6.1 million in sales to her overall box office gross that now totals $54.9 million.
Cher is off the road until Sept. 11 when she kicks off the final North American leg of her Dressed to Kill tour in Albany, NY.
