Now the Cape Town-based seven-piece are again collaborating on a high-profile sporting anthem – this time the official fan song for the South African Rugby Union’s bid for the IRB Rugby World Cup that gets underway when the Springbok’s arrive clash with Wales on September 11th.
In creating the anthem, Freshlyground has worked with Goldfish, a multi-South African Music Award winning electro-pop duo, also based in the coastal city of Cape Town. The two Sony Africa-signed groups released their first collaborative, rugby-themed single “Let’s Do It Again” on July 15th across a number of digital platforms in South Africa.
Freshlyground’s Simon Atwell says, “We’re getting behind the Springboks as they look to become the first nation to win back-to-back World Cup tournaments. Our wish is that the song fires up the country to unite behind the team.
Ibiza regulars with recent residencies at the Blue Marlin and Pacha Ibiza clubs, Goldfish has taken its award-winning music to 22 countries, playing 190 shows in 2010, and recently headlining the Vrij Festival in Amsterdam’s Olympic Stadium. The group’s fusion of live instruments and dance music as heard on 2010’s “Get Busy Living” (Sony) earned the duo a South African Music Award for Best Global Dance Album in May of this year.
