Shawn Mendes debuted a three-song remix EP on Friday (Dec. 21) entitled The Album (Remixes). The EP includes songs from his self-titled album and features fresh sounds from Kaytranda as well as vocals from Leon Bridges and Jessie Reyez.
The first track sees Kaytranada giving Mendes’ originally piano and guitar-driven “Where Were You In The Morning?” a more relaxed R&B-style beat and electrified sound.
A new rendition of “Why” follows; while the backing track is similar, the song is given new strength with the addition of Leon Bridges’ warm voice.
Jessie Reyez tops off the release by joining Mendes and Khalid for “Youth.” Reyez brings new lyrics, singing, “You have died inside, and your soul’s not worth the price/ Don’t you lose it, for this foolishness, no,” and “How come certain boys in blue/ Can be so quick to shoot/ You gotta be the change that you want to see.”
