Tiffany Young is ready to be unwrapped with her new Christmas song, “Peppermint.”
Released today (Nov. 30) at midnight, the romantic, bilingual track is Young’s third new single of 2018, following “Over My Skin” and “Teach You.” Unlike the prior two tracks, which veered towards quirky, funky pop, “Peppermint” is a chill, lush alt-R&B track in which the Girls’ Generation member sings about being unwrapped under “red, green lights.” The title alludes to lyrics describing the “sweet and cool” kiss of the one who makes her happy.
The song came out after Young began teasing the track on social media a day before its release, using emojis like wrapped gifts, snowflakes, and Christmas trees as she asked fans “should I release my Christmas song tomorrow?” After its release, she posted on Instagram that the song was dedicated to her “forevers,” a nod at her fan following.
“Peppermint” is Young’s first holiday song as a soloist, but has previously released other Christmastime music, including the 2015 Christmas-themed EP Dear Santa with Girls’ Generation subunit TTS.
A member of Girls’ Generation since 2007, Young parted ways with former label SM Entertainment last year and has since shifted into the U.S. market. She will hold her first solo North American tour in March.
“Peppermint” is now available on iTunes, Apply Music, Google Music Play and Spotify.
