Chance The Rapper and his wife Kirsten Corley have announced they are getting divorced. The couple tied the knot in 2019 and five years later, they’re going separate ways.
The Chicago rapper and Corley released a joint statement regarding the split, which was posted to Corley’s Instagram Story as well as Chance’s on Wednesday (April 3), explaining that they are divorcing after a period of separation and that the couple came to the decision “amicably.”
“After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways,” Chance and Corley wrote. “We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together. We kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition. Thank you.”
The Grammy-winning artist and Corley have two daughters together: Kensli, who is seven years old, and Marli, a four-year-old.
Chance and Kirsten have been friends since childhood as the rapper first laid eyes on Corley when he was just nine years old. They eventually began dating as adults in 2013 before getting married in March 2019 with an extravagant celebration at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach, Calif. The couple endured a brief split in 2016 but quickly got back together.
Chano’s marriage has played a major role in his music career, as he often incorporated parts of his relationship into his art. His wedding was an inspiration behind his 2019 album The Big Day.
The project served as his official debut album, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. He hasn’t released a studio LP since.
