Mac Miller was mourned by his hometown on Tuesday (Sept. 11), as friends, family members and fans gathered in Pittsburgh, delivering emotional speeches about the rapper, including Miller’s grandmother Marcia Weiss.
Weiss thanked the thousands of fans who attended the vigil during her heartfelt speech at Frick Park, which was chosen as the vigil location for its significance to Miller’s life and music career: His 2011 debut album is named after the playground Blue Slide Park and located two blocks away from his high school.
“Everybody, he would be so excited, he wished he was here and I wish he was here,” Weiss said. “But he loves you all, he loves Pittsburgh and everything you have done for him. Thank you so much for everybody being here. You were wonderful.”
Mac passed away at the young age of 26 on Sept. 7. His body was discovered at his home after what was reportedly an overdose, but his cause of death has yet to be officially declared.
