Singer-songwriters Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and Phoebe Bridgers have come together to form supergroup Boygenius, and will release their self-titled EP on Nov. 9. The group has also announced a 2018 tour and dropped three new songs to celebrate today (Aug. 21).
The first three singles of the six track project, “Bite The Hand,” “Stay Down,” and “Me & My Dog,” each have one singer leading in her own unique way. The support and added layering of the other two make for thee tracks that let each band member shine and stand out while keeping a unified and cohesive sound.
“When we met, Lucy and Phoebe and I were in similar places in our lives and our musical endeavors, but also had similar attitudes toward music that engendered an immediate affinity,” Baker explains. “Lucy and Phoebe are incredibly gifted performers, and I am a fan of their art outside of being their friends, but they are also both very wise, discerning and kind people whom I look up to in character as much as in talent.”

Bridgers and Baker will begin their North American co-headlining tour starting November 4th in Nashville, with Dacus opening. Although it won’t be considered a Boygenius tour, after each artist plays their solo set, it’s possible that some songs from the new group may make an appearance on stage.
“It seemed obvious to record a 7-inch for tour, although many adult men will try to take credit for the idea,” adds Bridgers. “When we got together, we had way more songs than we expected and worked so well together, that we decided to make a full EP.”
Julien, Phoebe, and Lucy also each have plenty of other upcoming tour dates of their own. Julien’s tour includes Jack Antonoff’s Shadow of the City Festival at Asbury Park’s Stone Pony Summer Stage on Aug. 25, and Phoebe’s tour includes The National’s There’s No Leaving New York festival at Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium on Sept. 29-30.
