Whether the audience knew it or not, they were witnessing a subtle nod to the late Chris Cornell during Pearl Jam’s performance at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam Thursday night (June 14).
All members of the flagship grunge band were seen on stage with shirts honoring the late Soundgarden singer and his many musical aliases by wearing shirts paying tribute to their departed friend.

Some of the shirts, like guitarist Mike McCready’s UltraMega OK Soundgarden shirt, were clear nods to Cornell, while others, such as lead singer Eddie Vedder’s Nude Dragon tee — the alias Soundgarden used during their 2010 comeback tour — were less obvious.

Pearl Jam’s tribute came only a few weeks after the one-year anniversary of Cornell’s death last May. The band also recognized the late-singer with a dedicated rendition of their song “Come Back,” during a headlining show in Chile in March.
