The Smashing Pumpkins were full of surprises at their 30th anniversary show.
On Thursday night (Aug. 2) in Holmdel, N.J., the group brought out Courtney Love to help cover two Hole songs, “Celebrity Skin” and “Malibu.” Love then stuck around for the band’s own track, “Bullet With Butterfly Wings,” from their famous 1995 album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
Additionally, the Pumpkins welcomed guests like members of The Killers, Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath, New Order’s Peter Hook, and Deftones’ Chino Moreno to the stage for various covers and renditions of originals, including a performance of “Snail” from their debut album Gish for the first time in eighteen years.
The Smashing Pumpkins are in the middle of their Shiny and Oh So Bright Tour, which began in July and extends through October. In June, they released their first single since 2014, “Solara.”
