Country star Lee Ann Womack, “Shallow” co-writer Anthony Rossomando, 21 Savage manager Kei Henderson, songwriter Matthew Koma and Capitol Music Group senior vp of global creative Amber Grimes are among the music creators newly added to ASCAP’s 2019 “I Create Music” EXPO, with panels that range from dissecting what’s next in hip-hop to songwriting for video games.
Producer and previously-announced EXPO panelist Don Cannon will join Henderson, Grimes and LVRN label founder Tunde Balogun (D.R.A.M., Raury, 6LACK) to cover the bustling Atlanta music scene, while two-time ASCAP Latin songwriter of the year Claudia Brant, DJ Ali Stone and Romeo Santos co-writer Joaquin Diaz will team up with Latin Grammy producer of the year Linda Briceño (aka Ella Bric) to discuss Latin music’s mainstream pop breakthrough.
Diaz and Bric will also join producer-songwriter Tommee Profitt and previously-announced Mike Woods of duo Rice N Peas (G-Eazy, Jay Sean) for a conversation about the business of producing.
To offer expert commentary on the art of writing music for video games are composers Austin Wintory (Assassin’s Creed Syndicate), Jack Wall and Cindy Shapiro (Call of Duty, Mass Effect), Darren Korb (Bastion, Transistor, Pyre, Hades) and Ubisoft’s Lydia Andrew (Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate).
This year’s EXPO, taking place May 2 through 4 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles, will also have A&Rs like Ty Cannon (Aftermath), Jermi Thomas (Columbia), Jae Brown (Capitol) and Jennifer Goicoechea (Epic) on hand to judge showcases and feedback panels throughout EXPO’s three days. Also added to the lineup is “Music Business Toolbox” founder Bryan Calhoun.
In all, the conference will attract more than 3,000 music creators for three days of panels, workshops, master classes, keynotes and one-on-one sessions, with more panelist additions to be announced. ASCAP revealed the first wave of speakers late last month, including a host of Ariana Grande collaborators to discuss the making of the singer’s groundbreaking album thank u, next and several top female A&R executives.
