CL Enters the Hot 100 With Solo Single ‘Lifted’

CL is feeling "Lifted" after cracking Billboard Hot 100 for the first time as a lead artist.

CL makes a major moment in her solo career with “Lifted” marking her first-ever entry on the Billboard Hot 100 as the lead artist.

On the chart dated Oct. 22, the singer-rapper’s new single “Lifted” entered at No. 94. It’s the first time the K-pop superstar has landed an entry on the ranking as the lead artist and her second overall appearance as she featured on PSY‘s “Daddy,” which hit No. 97 on the Hot 100 chart dated Dec. 19, 2015.

The song debuts on the Hot 100 with nearly all its chart points from 5.2 million U.S. streams in the week ending Oct. 6, according to Nielsen Music.

“Lifted” interpolates the Wu-Tang Clan’s 1993 single “Method Man” (which peaked at No. 69 on the Hot 100) and its accompanying music video — which has earned more than 16 million views at press time — features a cameo from Method Man himself. The song is the Seoul native’s first solo track to be released entirely in English following “Hello Bitches,” that saw the starlet singing and rapping in both English and Korean, and guest appearances on songs like Diplo‘s “Doctor Pepper” and Skrillex‘s “Dirty Vibe.” It’s arguably her most exciting chart move yet since signing with Scooter Braun almost exactly two years ago to advance her career in the U.S.

CL (née Chaerin Lee) has been hitting the U.S. hard to make “Lifted” a success and cement herself stateside, most notably performing the woozy hip-hop joint on The Late Late Show With James Corden where the host introduced her as “one of the hottest stars in the world” (note, not one of the biggest K-pop stars in the world) and sang along with her during the fun performance.

It has yet to be announced whether “Lifted” previews an upcoming album, but CL can at least take pride in knowing “Lifted” is starting to fly in America — a long-awaited accomplishment for the Korean star who has been in the entertainment industry about a decade now.
