Eminem’s ‘Kamikaze’ Sets New Record as His Ninth Straight U.K. No. 1 Album
Eminem creates a new record on the U.K. album chart with his ninth consecutive No. 1 set, across an 18-year span, "Kamikaze."
As expected from midweek data, Eminem creates a new record on the U.K. album chart with his ninth consecutive No. 1 set, across an 18-year span, Kamikaze (Interscope/Universal). “Promises” (Columbia/Sony) by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith climbs 2-1 on the singles countdown after missing out on the top spot last week by just 139 combined units.
Kamikaze logs first-week combined units of 55,000 to take the album crown and move Eminem ahead of Led Zeppelin and ABBA, who had eight unbroken No. 1 titles each. The new set also becomes the fourth fastest-selling artist album of 2018, according to the Official Charts Company.
Eminem outsells the Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again soundtrack (Polydor/Universal), which falls 1-2, by three to one. The Greatest Showman (Atlantic/Warner) slips 2-3 and another former bestseller, Ariana Grande’s Sweetener (Republic/Universal), 3-4. There’s a new entry at No. 5 for Idles, the punk outfit from Brighton on the south coast of England, as their sophomore set Joy As An Act Of Resistance (Partisan) takes a bow.
Also new in the artist album top ten are singer-songwriter Passenger, with Runaway (Black Crow), at No. 6 and the Kooks at No. 9 with Let’s Go Sunshine (Lonely Cat); remarkably, like Idles, both Passenger and the Kooks are also from Brighton. Australia’s Troye Silvan is new at No. 10 with Bloom (Polydor/Universal).
The arrival of “Promises”at the singles summit takes Harris’ total of U.K. No. 1 singles to ten, and Smith’s to seven. Last week’s No. 1, “Eastside” (Interscope/Universal) by Benny Blanco, Halsey and Khalid, dips to No. 2 as George Ezra’s “Shotgun” (Columbia/Sony) holds at No. 3.
The Eminem album generates three top ten singles for the rapper, with “The Ringer” at No. 4, “Lucky You” featuring Joyner Lucas at No. 6 and “Fall” at No. 9.Loud Luxury are at No. 5 again with “Body” (Armada), featuring Brando.
