More than 10 years in the industry, the Girls’ Generation brand and its associates continue to remain strong.
Yuri is the latest member of the female outfit to release a solo record with The First Scene: The 1st Mini Album making her debut on Billboard‘s World Albums chart at No. 10 this week. With its Oct. 4 release, the six-track set only had one day to earn points to land on the charts but does so seemingly off the strength of the slick, sophisticated pop style showcased on the record mixed with a long-anticipated solo venture from the 28-year-old.
Altogether, Yuri marks the fifth Girls’ Gen associate to enter World Albums. The first appearance came via leader Taeyeon in 2015 (whose EP titled I debuted at No. 1 on the chart and marks the highest position for any member), while Tiffany Young first appeared in 2016 (I Just Wanna Dance peaked at No. 3) and Seohyun followed in 2017 (Don’t Say No also peaked at No. 3). Former Girls’ Generation member Jessica, who departed the group in 2014, also entered the chart in 2016 with her EP titled With Love, J that peaked at No. 4.
For K-pop chart nerds, they’ll know that seven of the nine GG singers have entered the World Digital Song Sales chart too. While no song from The First Scene makes its way onto the tally this week, Yuri had previously appeared on the chart with fellow member Seohyun on their collaboration track “Secret.” Taeyeon, Tiffany, Jessica have all landed songs on World Digital Songs as have Yoona and Hyoyeon.

Of course as a whole, Girls’ Generation is one of the most decorated K-pop acts on the Billboard charts as one of the few Korean artists to land an album on the Billboard 200 and score multiple No. 1s on World Albums chart. No doubt that Yuri’s latest chart accomplishment continues the group’s enduring legacy.
