GOT7 return to continue their strong history on the Billboard charts with their latest EP that sees the band diving into some of the most personal material to date.
The group’s latest EP Spinning Top: Between Security & Insecurity debuts at No. 5 on World Albums, selling 1,000 copies in the week ending May 23, according to Nielsen Music. This is GOT7’s ninth album to land in the Top 5 of World Albums from their 14 overall entries on the chart to date. The band also have four No. 1s on the World Albums chart, one of the most among all K-pop acts.
Spinning Top also enters at No. 9 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart, a tally that sees far fewer K-pop act, with Spinning Top marking the first Korean boy band to enter the Top 10 since March.
Even from the title Spinning Top: Between Security & Insecurity, this new EP sees GOT7 making an effort to dive into deeper and more thoughtful material and taking an even stronger lead in the creative production.
The introductory track “1 Degree,” co-written by youngest member Yugyeom, sets the darker mood as the guys admit “Look at me, I’m afraid” and share how they don’t want the current balance they find themselves in to shift by even one degree. This sets the table for “Eclipse,” featuring leader JB writing and producing, to plow through their innermost thoughts as a group with the extremes of a eclipse doubling as a metaphor for a love letter to fans, but also admitting their worries that their time is up and popularity fading. The EP gets brighter the light-hearted “Time Out” (where the guys take a break and know things will be better in the morning, in lyrics co-written by Youngjae) and ending with the album standout “Page” (another metaphor-heavy cut with both heartfelt and somewhat-sensual dedications to a potential love, also helmed by JB).
Over on Billboard‘s World Digital Song Sales chart, GOT7’s new single “Eclipse” debuts at No. 13 with 1,000 copies sold in the week, according to Nielsen Music. This is the group’s 28th entry to date. So far, GOT7 has peaked at No. 2 on the chart with three different singles to date: “Fly,” “Hard Carry” and “Lullaby.”
GOT7 will soon come stateside to continue promoting Spinning Top as part of their 2019 Keep Spinning world tour that kicks off in Newark on June 27 before stops in Toronto, Dallas, Los Angeles and Oakland. While in Korea, the guys have been releasing special performances and videos of their Spinning Tops tracks on YouTube, including this version to thank their fans, known as iGOT7. Watch below:
