Hot Tours: Barbra Streisand Tops with North American Performances

Barbra Streisand reigns atop the weekly Hot Tours ranking with ticket revenue reported from arena performances on her trek through North American markets during October and November. The Live Nation-produced concerts generated more than $31.3 million at the box office from 10 concerts in nine markets. An October 8 performance at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center kicked off her 2012 tour with a packed house of 12,158 in attendance and ticket sales slightly more than $3 million.
Four Canadian cities were on the Streisand tour itinerary including the country’s largest market, Toronto, which produced the top gross and ticket count north of the border. With 13,719 fans in attendance, the arena grossed $3.7 million from an October 23 concert. She also performed to sellout crowds in Montreal on October 17 at the Bell Centre and in Ottawa on October 20 at Scotiabank Place. The final show in Canada was in British Columbia at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on October 29 with 11,274 tickets sold.
American markets included on the legendary singer’s Back To Brooklyn Tour following the Philly opener were Chicago, Las Vegas, San Jose and Los Angeles as well as her hometown of Brooklyn, N.Y. where she performed two shows at the new Barclays Center. (Box office totals from the Brooklyn shows have not been reported as of press time, but will appear in a future Hot Tours weekly recap.) The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles was the other venue to host Streisand’s tour for two performances with concerts held on November 9 and 11. The shows drew more than 33,000 fans for both nights, producing a combined gross of $7.8 million.

Dutch violinist André Rieu and pop star Jennifer Lopez follow at No. 2 and 3 on the weekly ranking of Hot Tours with box office totals reported from their fall concert treks through European markets. Rieu’s string of 15 performances during the month of October grossed $5.4 million (US$) from venues in Germany, Switzerland and France with just over 63,000 sold tickets. Lopez ranks third with $4.7 million (US$) in ticket sales revenue reported from the fall European leg of her Dance Again World Tour. Attendance was 53,211 from concerts in five cities: Zürich, Berlin, Hamburg, Antwerp and London.
