Kevin Kelleher will become chief operating officer of Sony Music Entertainment on April 1, reporting to Sony Music CEO Rob Stringer. The nearly 25-year Sony Music veteran currently is executive vp/CFO.
Kelleher has been an integral decision maker in all of Sony’s acquisitions and mergers since joining the company in 1992 as a senior financial executive, after leaving PricewaterhouseCoopers’ media/entertainment practice. For example, he worked on the Sony/BMG joint venture in 2004 and the subsequent 100 percent buyout of BMG; and he was involved in the original formation of Sony/ATV with Michael Jackson in 1995, which also become fully owned by Sony last year.
“Kevin has a tremendous depth of experience in both the music business and the larger entertainment industry that will help us as we take Sony Music to the next level and achieve even greater success,” Stringer said in a statement. “I am very happy to have Kevin taking on this expanded role, and I look forward to working with him by my side in this exciting time for our industry.”
