World Cup 2018: Mexico Beats Germany, Paulina Rubio, Pepe Aguilar & More React On Twitter

Check out the reactions from Paulina Rubio, Pepe Aguilar and other artists to Mexico's unlikely win over reigning world champions Germany.

Mexico went crazy during its 1-0 unlikely victory over reigning world champions Germany in the 2018 World Cup on Sunday (June 17).

During a match that sounded like a Mexican home game — seriously, were there more Mexican fans than German fans in Russia? Sure sounds like it — the Mexican stands loudly sang “Cielito Lindo.” Through it all, #Mexico was the top trending topic in the world, garnering close to 2 million tweets during and after the game.

“We’re here singing ‘Cielito Lindo,’ Viva Mexico!” tweeted Paulina Rubio from the stadium.

And members of Banda El Recodo celebrated their team’s goal:

“I can’t believe it!” tweeted Pepe Aguilar. “40 years as a fan had to pass before I saw something like this.”

Between the singing and the screaming and the incredible plays from the Mexican team, Mexico was able to sustain its lead from an early goal by Lozano and clinch the game 1-0.
