Shawn Mendes Sells Out First Ever Stadium Show in Minutes

On the heels of his two Grammy nominations for Song of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album, Shawn Mendes sold out his first ever stadium show at Rogers Centre in his hometown of Toronto in just minutes…

On the heels of Shawn Mendes’ two Grammy nominations for song of the year and best pop vocal album, the “In My Blood” singer-songwriter sold out his first ever stadium show just minutes after tickets went on sale Saturday.

The Sept. 6, 2019, show at Toronto’s Rogers Centre is also Mendes’ first time headlining a concert in his hometown and is his biggest booked show to date. The Rogers Centre concert, promoted by Louis Messina of Messina Touring Group, will wrap up the North American leg of Mendes’ 2019 global arena tour. This tour date was announced earlier this month and was available for presale starting on Dec. 5. Mendes also announced a limited-edition merchandise collaboration with Canadian-born brand Roots, which also quickly sold out.

“This really was a dream come true to play the Rogers Centre in my home town,” Mendes says in a statement. “And now to have sold it out is just incredible and something I could have only ever imagined.”

Messina says he watched Mendes go from opening on Taylor Swift‘s 1989 tour to headlining his own stadium show, noting the now-20-year-old artist has “always had the vision, dream and determination and it has worked.” Messina also “guaranteed” that “this is the first of many stadiums in [Mendes’] near future.”

Manager Andrew Gertler added, “Since day one, Shawn has put his all into to his live shows. We set the goal to end this tour with a sold-out stadium and achieved that faster than I think any of us expected. He always had big dreams to play big venues, and to now have risen to stadium level is just the beginning of more to come.”
