Snow Patrol’s ‘Wildness’ on Target For U.K. Albums Chart Summit, ‘Shawn Mendes’ Poised For Top 3 Debut

Snow Patrol is marching to the U.K. albums chart summit with Wildness (Polydor), the Northern Irish alternative rock outfit’s seventh album.
Wildness snatches top spot on the Official Albums Chart Update, ahead of The Greatest Showman soundtrack (Atlantic) and Shawn Mendes’ self-titled third album (via EMI). If Wildness hangs on when the weekly chart is published late Friday, it’ll mark Snow Patrol’s first No. 1 in 12 years.
The Gary Lightbody-led outfit has five Top 5 albums, including Eyes Open, which hit No. 1 in 2006 and is their biggest-seller to-date. Eyes Open shifted 2.4 million copies in the U.K., where it’s certified eight-times platinum, according to the Official Charts Company.
Meanwhile, U.S. rapper A$AP Rocky is chasing a third U.K .Top 10 with his new album Testing (ASAP Worldwide/Polo/RCA) at No. 11 on the midweek chart, and hip-hop veteran Pusha T could crack the Top 40 for the first time with Daytona (Def Jam), new at No. 13.
And there might be a special birthday present for Australian pop legend Kylie Minogue, whose 2000 set Light Years (Parlophone) could return to the Top 40. Light Years, which features the hits “Spinning Around,” “On a Night Like This” and “Kids” (with Robbie Williams), reenters at No. 19 thanks to an exclusive vinyl release to celebrate her 50th birthday.
Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa’s summery dance tune “One Kiss” (Columbia/Warner Bros) leads the Official Singles Chart Update, ahead of Ariana Grande’s “No Tears Left To Cry” (Republic) and Anne-Marie’s “2002” (EastWest).
