The Weeknd blasts in at No. 1 on the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart (dated Oct. 8) with “Starboy,” featuring Daft Punk. The song becomes Daft Punk’s first chart-topper on the survey and The Weeknd’s second, after “The Hills” led for one week last year. (Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks began in 2014.)

Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks is a weekly ranking of the most shared and/or mentioned songs on Twitter in the U.S., ranked by the volume of shares over a seven-day period (Monday to Sunday; the latest tracking week ended on Sept. 25).
“Starboy,” the title track from The Weeknd’s upcoming full-length studio album, erupts following the singer announcing the set Sept. 21 after deleting all his Instagram photos and posting the album’s cover art. A day later, the pop/R&B hitmaker released the single to streaming services, radio and digital retailers.
The cut debuts at No. 12 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and No. 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 with only one day of sales and streaming activity and four days of radio airplay for the tracking week (the airplay tracking frame ended on Sept. 25, while the sales and streaming tracking weeks ended on Sept. 22).
The Weeknd’s return ignites his social-media channels, including a 737 percent gain in Twitter mentions — up to 70,000 in the week ending Sept. 25, according to Next Big Sound. His social haul helps the singer mount a No. 8 re-entry on the Social 50 chart.
Plus, Panic! at the Disco begins at No. 7 with “LA Devotee,” matching its highest rank among seven entries on the Top Tracks survey with “Hallelujah” in July 2015.
The “Devotee” debut comes after the song’s music video premiered Sept. 22. The cut co-stars Noah Schnapp, of the Netflix hit show Stranger Things, undergoing electroshock therapy in a warped, nightmarish setting. It has surged to more than 3.5 million global views on YouTube through Sept. 29.

Panic! also notches a No. 22 debut for “Death of a Bachelor,” the title track from the group’s most recent album, released in January. The song arrives on the chart following the act’s performance of the track on TBS’ Conan on Sept. 22. The official performance clip has clocked more than 202,000 global views on YouTube through Sept. 29.
The new music video and live performance help power Panic! to a 2,200 percent gain in Twitter mentions for the week, climbing to 46,000 total. The social surge, in turn, lifts the band to a No. 34 re-entry on the Social 50.
Meanwhile, Ariana Grande scores two debuts on Top Tracks, led by the No. 8 arrival of “Jason’s Song (Gave It Away).” She released the song, which she wrote with Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, on Sept. 16 to streaming services and digital retailers, before performing it on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on Sept. 19.
“Jason’s Song” earns Grande her 18th top 10 on Top Tracks, tying her with Drake for the most among solo artists. One Direction, with 24, leads all acts.

Grande’s second debut is the No. 25 bow of “They Don’t Know,” from the soundtrack to the upcoming film Trolls. The soundtrack album, released Sept. 23 on RCA Records, also features the hit single Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling!,” which zoomed to No. 4 in June and topped the Hot 100 in May.
The pair of new releases help Grande’s Twitter mentions race to 328,000 for the week, a gain of 40 percent.
